Plenty of cool things going on Lawrence tonight: The 6th Red Balloon to Do is tonight which has me very excited and an after-party gig at the Granada with Fourth Of July, Ad Astra Per Aspera, Boo and Boo Too and more. Here is the skinny from Lawrence.com daddy-o:
Six years in, the Red Balloon To Do keeps on keepin’ on despite gallery closings along the way and the transient nature of the local art scene. This art walk specializes in creating a festive atmosphere to showcase the works of up-and-coming artists as well as spontaneous performances involving poetry, music, film, etc. Red balloons are handed out as a sort of event ticket and can be obtained at all participating venues: 6 Gallery, Wonder Fair, White Chocolate, Astrokitty Comics, The Granada and Solidarity.
The art walk will take place from 5-9pm and then the Granada will host an afterparty with Ad Astra Per Aspera, Fourth of July, Boo and Boo Too and Coat Party. Tickets to this all-ages show will be $7.
6 Gallery will be having a gallery talk at 4pm featuring the artists of its current show: Jerry Kunkel and Jennifer Jarnot. Afterward, the western swing band The Rhythm Busters will entertain in the breezeway outside the gallery.
I know I’ll be doing the art walk, not sure if I’ll make it to the gig (I’m trying!), but nonetheless it should be a pretty memorable Saturday. Fuck yeah!
